Heavy Vehicle Engineers (HVE) Membership Categories:

Full Member

Apply for Full Membership of HVE if you:

are a Heavy Vehicle Certifying Engineer (HVCE) who holds a current Letter/Certificate of Appointment from Waka Kotahi, New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) and/or are on one of the Competence Registers with practice area/s assigned for heavy vehicle certification categories

All certifying engineers, including probationary certifiers, who hold a Letter/Certificate of Appointment and/or are on a current Competence Register, join HVE as Full Members.

Affiliate Member

Apply for Affiliate Membership of HVE if you:

are working towards, but have not yet received a Waka Kotahi (NZTA) Letter of Appointment as a Heavy Vehicle Certifying Engineer (HVCE) and/or acceptance onto on one of the Competence Registers with practice area/s assigned for heavy vehicle certification categories

have an interest in the heavy vehicle industry, but are not on one of the Competence Registers with practice area/s assigned for heavy vehicle certification categories or hold an NZTA Letter/Certificate of Appointment

are a Member of Engineering New Zealand (EngNZ) who has an interest in heavy vehicle engineering

When an Affiliate Member receives their Letter of Appointment from Waka Kotahi (NZTA) as a certifying engineer and/or acceptance onto a Competence Register, including as a probationary certifier, they become a Full Member of HVE.

Retired Member

Apply for Retired Membership of HVE if you:

formerly held a Letter/Certificate of Appointment as a Heavy Vehicle Certifying Engineer (HVCE) and/or were on one of the Competence Registers with practice area/s assigned for heavy vehicle certification categories and who, for reasons of retirement, have resigned from the Competence Register/s and no longer hold a current Letter/Certificate of Appointment, but still have an interest/involvement in heavy vehicle engineering

Student Member

Heavy Vehicle Engineers (HVE) offers FREE Student Membership for those studying towards a recognised mechanical engineering qualification in New Zealand who are interested in the heavy vehicle industry. Student Members have rights as Affiliate Members. When a Student Member graduates, or withdraws from study, they must also withdraw from the Student Membership category, but are then free to apply for other membership categories. In order to be considered for free Student Membership of HVE, you will asked:

to send a scanned copy of your Student Identification to hve.sec@gmail.com at the same time as submitting your online application
to agree to confirming your student status with Engineering New Zealand each financial year
